[Legend of the Galactic Heroes](https://myanimelist.net/anime/820/Ginga_Eiyuu_Densetsu) I just want there to be a release out there that uses the official script and has correctly-positioned lines, so this is far below my usual standards (starting at episode 6). I fixed some typos and did some automated timing stuff but that's about it. Also, just to get it out of the way: **motbob**: Central Anime's release sucks **Heibi**: No, Central Anime's release was good There, now we don't have to muck up the comments.

Any plans to do the rest?

Eventually. But apparently CA's release got better as it went on, so these were the most important episodes for me to work on.
You are correct Motbob - it got better as we went. Banzai George, who supplied the scripts did his level best back in the 90's. I'm sure today we would have had a much better release. Anyway, always take with a grain a salt a pro-release. I've seen plenty of pro-releases that do Reader's Digest versions on translations. A translation is a translation in the words the translator writes or speaks them in. Others may use different words. As long as the meaning is there it is a correct translation. The differences don't need to be argued over or the other work trashed.

Does this have the name captions? Those make tye show far more easier to follow
CA has the name captions. The professional one does not. If Motbob added them then this does. I have the US blu-ray release. you'd think they would have done the captions for such an expensive venture.
@Heibi quality wise, which one did you find better? the JPBD or the USBD?
Both are blu-ray quality. The US release has the subtitles - I bought one of the 1000 copies myself. As far as I know, only the LDs(which I own as well) had the screen text for names of ships, places and people. We used the LDs to add the text to the titles we released. That's also what we based our name spellings on.

I had no idea there was an official release with those captions. I wonder whether the TV airing had captions or not. JPBD vs USBD quality is a bit irrelevant since the BD rip I'm using are kind of destructive. It doesn't preserve the grain at all and generally doesn't match the source too closely. But I really don't feel like using the 1GB/ep rip for this show that's floating around out there since the source isn't exactly worth preserving in the first place.
The LD is the only official release from Japan with captions. When the original 26 episodes aired on TV in Japan they had captions as well. But the LDs had captions for all 110 episodes, movies and Gaiden. That's why we had to add them for our DVD versions.

Since the studio/publisher seems to be waffling over whether captions are appropriate, I guess that means it becomes a judgment call for the fansubber on whether to add them.
Thus, we added them.
Has CA ever considered re-releasing the LD version with softsubs?
No longer have the setup to copy LDs in to the computer. I still have the LD box sets. You have to play the entire LD, record it, make sure the settings for colors are correct, the sounds, etc. Then you have to process it and hope it looks good afterwards. If anything didn't come out right you have to go back and re-record the LD. Very time consuming.
